FOGGING ADVISORY FOR MOSQUITO
CONTROL
USE OF
ULTRA LOW VOLUME (ULV) FOGGERS FOR MOSQUITO CONTROL
1.
Fogging is a control measure used to kill adult mosquitoes, and
protect the public from infected mosquitoes.
2.
Selected pesticides are applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human
health, beneficial organisms, and the environment.
3.
Fogging creates a very fine mist.
4.
Residents and pets should remain indoors and keep windows closed and
window-unit air conditioners off for 30 minutes following fogging.
5.
The fogging will only be continued for as long as high mosquito
populations are detected in the area.
PYRENONE®
25-5
PUBLIC HEALTH INSECTICIDE
The District is using Pyrenone 25-5®, public health insecticide,
which is characterized as a botanical insecticide that include pyrethrins or
synthetic pyrethroids with pyperonyl butioxide. It is used in many mosquito
control districts in California because of the small amount needed for treatment
- less than 1 ounces per acre, and because it breaks down within a few hours in
the environment. The product is approved by the US Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) and applied according to label directions by trained and certified
staff.
