Board of Trustees Meeting

April 8, 2008

Agenda Item:  New Business

Discussion and/or approval to purchase two (2) EZ-Go ST-480 Work Horse carts from lowest responsible bidder not to exceed a total of $20,000.00 from Fund # 9000.01.225 - Contingency Expense. – Jim Saulnier

Background:

In order to maximize treatment efficiency and maintain continued momentum of control, the RIFA control program requires the use of five golf cart vehicles applying control products on large parcels, such as country clubs and golf courses.    The use of workhorses has proven to be a very reliable vehicle for the application and delivery of control products in accomplishing this task.  Carry-all golf carts have also been used for this application.  The RIFA work requirements in these environments have  proven to be too much for this vehicle.  Using the golf carts with heavy loads of pesticide in the Herd spreaders over prolonged periods fatigue the rear suspension systems, creating structural stress and increased down time for repairs.  Purchasing two additional work horse vehicles with their superior design for our application would complete the pesticide delivery fleet needed.  The Carry-all golf carts will be used as part of the country club eye gnat control program which does not require heavy-duty vehicles.   These Work Horse carts were not included in the original FY 2007-2008 Budget; funding is to come from Contingency Expense.

Staff Recommendation:

Approve the purchase of two (2) EZ-Go ST-480 Work Horse carts from lowest responsible bidder not to exceed a total of $20,000.00 from Fund # 9000.01.225 - Contingency Expense.

Fiscal Impact:

Current funds available from Fund #9000.01.225 – Contingency Expense are $792,900, which is 100% of the budgeted amount for this line item.  This expenditure is approximately 3% of the available balance.
