Approval of contract with Lisa Copeland for transitional counsel services and authorize the Interim General Manager to execute the same.

Background:

On April 14, 2008, the Board accepted the resignation of Lisa Copeland, the District’s former General Counsel. During the following month, the District’s Interim General Counsel, Rutan & Tucker, and the District’s employment/labor counsel, Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, and Ms. Glanz anticipate needing to obtain information and/or documentation from Ms. Copeland. This is necessary to avoid duplication of services, to obtain the full benefit of Ms. Copeland’s past services, and to ensure a smooth transition of counsel. Ms. Copeland has requested that she be compensated for her transitional time at the rate of $155 per hour, plus costs. Ms. Jenson and Ms. Poturica both recommend that this arrangement be approved.

Fiscal Impact:

It is anticipated that the number of hours required for these services will be relatively small.
