Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District

Board of Trustees Meeting

February 12, 2008

Agenda Topic:  Consent Calendar

Approval for all CDPH vector certified staff to attend continuing education seminar to be held in Anaheim on February 26, 27, and 28, 2008 in an amount not to exceed $15,000.00 from Fund # 7600.1.225 – Staff Training.

Background:

Continuing education requirements are monitored by the California Department of Public Health, and each vector control technician and certified staff member must maintain a minimum number of credits per cycle in order to perform or supervise various vector-related job responsibilities (i.e. applying pesticides in a safe and legal manner).  Successful passing of the DPH Vector exam and maintaining certification is a job requirement at the District.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends DPH certified vector staff attend the training in order to complete and maintain continuing education requirements needed for the current continuing education cycle mandated by the Department of Public Health, State of California.  Full attendance at the February seminar assures completion of CEUs, and no additional off-site seminars should be needed for two years.

Fiscal Impact:

Current funds available from Fund # 7600.1.225 – Staff Training is $6,778. A $12,000.00 line item adjustment from Fund # 9000.01.225 Contingency Expense to Fund # 7600.1.225 – Staff Training will give a new balance for Fund # 7600.1.225 – Staff Training of $18,678. The total cost not to exceed $15,000.00 is approximately 80% of the new balance.
