Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District

Board of Trustees Meeting

February 12, 2008

Agenda Item:  New Business

Approval to solicit bids for and to purchase from the lowest, responsible bidder one two-hour fire rated temperature controlled storage module in an amount not to exceed $80,000.00.  The funding required to be provided from the capital budget line 8487.01.800 – Miscellaneous Improvements.

Background:

The increase in programs and related equipment at the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District has resulted in the need to expand the current flammable storage container area. Currently, adult insect pesticides, fuel cans for field equipment, and other district flammables, such as paints and solvents, are stored in the single 8 foot by 22 foot container. The excessive equipment and pesticide containers make it extremely difficult and dangerous to dispense and mix pesticides as required for ground and aerial fogging activities.

In order to alleviate this problem, a second storage module, arranged in a mirror format to the original container, is recommended. The additional unit will be used to store field equipment and miscellaneous District paints, solvents, and materials, and the original unit will continue to house the adulticides and mixing equipment.  The area where the existing storage unit is located has a second pad for this unit as the area was originally planned for two units.

This two-hour fire rated storage module  will be a free standing, portable that is designed and approved for storing/handling flammable/combustible liquids, acids, and related chemicals.
