Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District

Board of Trustees Meeting

January 8, 2008

Agenda Item:  New Business

Discussion and/or approval to purchase an Argo Conquest Tundra from Points West Argo in an amount not to exceed $18,000 from Account # 8415.1.300 – Vehicle Capital Expenditure – Jim Saulnier, Operations Manager

Background:

The District’s amphibious vehicle #57(1998 Argo Conquest), used for mosquito control, is quite old and now requires considerable repairs.  This results in considerable down time when the equipment is needed, especially during the duck club mosquito breeding season.    A new Argo unit is needed to replace unit #57.  Points West Argo is the only supplier of this product.  Because of this, no bid process is feasible, but board approval is required for its purchase.  The purchase of this unit will provide Operations with new and reliable equipment for controlling mosquitoes in habitats, such as duck clubs and the Salton Sea marshes, and many agricultural sources, such as flooded date gardens and citrus groves.

Staff Recommendation:

Approval to purchase Argo Conquest Tundra from Points West Argo.

Fiscal Impact:

Current funds available from Fund #8415.1.300 Vehicle Capital Expenditure is $132,973 which is 100% of the budgeted amount for this line item.  This expenditure is approximately 14% of the available balance.
