Semi-annul research reports from University of California
Riverside and Davis
for FY 2007/2008.
Background:
The District provides research
grants to the University
of California Riverside
and UC Davis.
UC Riverside research projects include a study on the possibility of using
different bio-control agents, such as tadpole shrimps, for mosquito control;
seasonality and abundance of eye gnats in agricultural and urban habitats, and
the influence of water quality and wetland management on mosquito and other
nuisance insects’ production in treatment wetlands. UC Davis research projects include
monitoring of mosquito-borne viruses and evaluation and optimizing of mosquito
vector species control.
Fiscal Impact:
The research grants were approved
for FY 2007/2008 and are posted in the budget as Account #8510.1.600 in an
amount of $217,569. The semi-annual
payment (total - $98, 784.50) will be distributed as:
- UC
Riverside – Dr. M. Mulla - $19,000
- UC Davis – Dr.
Reisen - $41,866.50
- UC Riverside – Dr. Walton
- $27,918
- UC Riverside – Dr. Platzer
- $10,000.00
The semi-annual payment is about 45% of the approved research
budget. Amount remaining for the research budget is $118,784.50.
