Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control
District Board of Trustees Meeting May 13, 2008 |
Agenda Item: New Business
Discussion and/or approval to purchase two (2) Pro-Mist electric truck mounted U.L.V. fogger units from Clarke Mosquito Control in an amount not to exceed a total of $22,000.00 from Fund # 9000.01.225 - Contingency Expense. – Jim Saulnier, Operations Manager
Background:
The current District owned 1996 and 1998 Pro
Mist foggers are now requiring regular repairs because of use and age. Parts for repairs for these models are
becoming more difficult to obtain from the sole supplier. These foggers have proven to be very reliable
and have required a minimum of repairs, historically. This year, fogging operations have commenced
several months earlier than normal requiring an intensified response to early
West Nile Virus detection and mosquito abundance. These new foggers would also be equipped with
ground radar, an enhanced feature which will allow the District to track
pesticide usage, miles traveled and acres treated for more effective and
efficient use of control products.
Staff Recommendation:
Approve the purchase of two (2) Pro Mist foggers from Clarke Mosquito Control in an amount not to exceed a total of $22,000.00 from Fund # 9000.01.225 - Contingency Expense.
Fiscal Impact:
Current funds available from Fund #9000.01.225 – Contingency Expense are $792,900, which is 100% of the budgeted amount for this line item. This expenditure is approximately 3% of the available balance.
