Presentation by Mirta Sudaric, PhD Candidate from Croatia, Josip Juraj Strossmayer -  University of Osijek,  Department of Biology, Osijek.

Background:

The District invited Mirta Sudaric, PhD Candidate from the University of Osijek, Croatia, to spend up to two months at the District Laboratory and work on a research project with the District’s staff on mosquito migration, mark-release-recapture, and dispersal of Culex tarsalis in the Coachella Valley.  Projects on mosquito migration and dispersal are of mutual interest, with the ultimate goal to better direct mosquito control activities and protect human health. The objectives of the research projects are to define the behavior of mosquito migration, flight patterns and dispersal applying mark-release-recapture analysis using circular and linear evaluation methods.

The work with our staff and the staff from the University of California Davis, with whom we have a research contract, will apply methods used in population dispersal and migration studies.
