Agenda Item:  Consent Calendar – August 14, 2007

 

Approval for Assistant to the General Manager to attend the two and one-half day Special District and Local Government Institute Seminar (includes half-day Excel Tune-Up workshop on Saturday, September 8), titled Finance, September 6, 7, and 8, 2007 in Seaside, California, in an amount not to exceed $1,600 from Fund #7600.01.225—Staff Training and Trustees Mike Duran, Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Bruce Underwood, and  Finance Committee Member Gary Howell to attend the two-day training on September 6 and 7 in an amount not to exceed $4,000 from Fund #6120.01.250—Trustee Support.

 

Background:

 

This educational seminar is intended to provide special district management team members with the tools and methods for dealing with the challenges facing local government agencies.  The half-day Speakers will help develop essential knowledge and skills that incorporate the latest information, techniques and insights for solving today’s financial challenges.  The seminar is the last component of the certification program in special district leadership and management.  The Assistant Manager is requesting approval to attend the half-day Excel Tune-Up workshop on Saturday, September 8, 2007.

 

 

Staff Recommendation:

Approve attendance at the Special District and Local Government Institute Seminar, September  6, 7, and 8, 2007 in Seaside, California, in an amount not to exceed $1,600 from Fund #7600.01.225—Staff Training and $4,000 from Fund 6120.01.250—Trustee Support.

 

Fiscal Impact:  

Current funds available from Fund #7600.01.225—Staff Training is $28,750, which is 100% of the budgeted amount for this line item.  This expenditure is approximately 6% of the available balance.  Current funds available from Fund #6120.01.250—Trustee Support is $24,000, which is 100% of the budgeted amount for this line item.  This expenditure is approximately 17% of the available balance.
